Baler twines are more important than you might think. They are vital in the process of bale production and the importance of its quality and endurance cannot be understated. There are two different types of baler twines: sisal and poly twine. Both twines differentiate in quality and consistency.
Sisal twine consists of fibres that are extracted from the Agave plant. Hence, this sort of twine is biodegradable. The knot strength of sisal twine is usually between 130 and 170 pounds. However, the knot strength is rarely indicated on the packages because this type of twine is rather inconsistent due to its nature.
Poly twine however differentiates a lot in knot strength: from 130 until 650 pounds. Compared to sisal twine, poly twine is cheaper, lighter and a lot stronger. Although this type of twine takes a lot longer to decompose, it is recyclable. Poly twines often come in different colours; this helps farmers label and identify their different bales.
It is important to know the fundamentals of baler twines, however, it is also important to know the fundamentals of bales. There are usually two types of bales: hay bales and straw bales. Hay bales are made from different types of grasses; hence, they are nutritious and used to feed livestock. Straw bales are usually made from what is left of wheat, barley and oats crop. The straw is not used to feed livestock, instead it serves to keep livestock warm and is often found in their cages or shelters. Additionally, straw can be used as isolation in houses.
Farmers produce two types of bales: small/large square bales and round bales. Square bales cannot be stacked outside and the production and storing process is usually more expensive. Round bales on the other hand can be stored outside and are well suited for feeding large quantities of livestock. As you can imagine, two different types of bales imply two different types of baler twine: small/large square baler twine and round baler twine.
